Embracing the Visceral

COUNCIL BLOG - BRI BARGER

As fun as big budget popcorn flicks at the movies can be, horror film enthusiasts know that the indie film scene is where artistry and innovation thrives. Throughout the history of the genre, low budget horror films have reinvigorated the genre, confronting taboos, pushing the bounds, and providing social commentary into the darkest aspects of life. The horror genre will always be uplifted and built by those who live in the shadows, those who pop up when you least expect it. Which, honestly, could not be more fitting for the genre. Independent filmmaker, author, and horror enthusiast, Kourtnea Hogan has a vision - one that may soon influence our nightmares.

Building Community in the Paranormal

Having community around you in the good times, and especially in the hard times, is not only a source of strength and comfort, but it truly is a necessity - it’s how we get through it all. Women of Gettysburg

COUNCIL BLOG - BETH LAWSON

After visiting Gettysburg for the first time and hearing about some of the remarkable stories about some of the women during the Civil War, I was fully invested in learning more and being able to share that information with others. These women were brave in their own ways even if they weren’t directly assisting in the battles themselves. Without them, many others would have suffered and their selflessness should be noted and others should learn from them.

***TW: DEATH AND DYING, LOSS***

As I’m sure most of you would agree, our space is not just filled with ghost hunters or demonologists, but also people who are death doulas, hospice workers, morticians, people who see that bridge or transition between the living and the dead in a different way than most of us tend to experience. And those folks have been an incredibly valuable part of my grieving process.

GUEST BLOG - AMBER LOVE

Maybe the paranormal isn’t just about ghosts tied to tragic histories or energy-soaked locations. Maybe it’s something far more intricate, something woven into human consciousness, or a dimension we only glimpse under certain conditions. What if these recurring entities aren’t random at all, but part of a larger system that intersects with our reality in ways we don’t yet understand?

In a Small Town, Even a Flicker Becomes a Beacon

COUNCIL BLOG - BRI BARGER

In rural places, spirituality tends to travel quietly. Word of mouth moves faster than any marketing budget, and a single open sign can feel like an invitation to step into a different kind of space. Metaphysical shops in small towns often become that kind of refuge: not just a place for purchasing stones or incense, but for finding other people who sense the world a little differently.
